University Overview
Founded in 1817, the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor is the oldest university in the state. Known for its strong research focus, it’s often called a “Public Ivy.” The Ann Arbor campus offers over 260 undergraduate degrees, and students apply directly to one of the 14 schools or colleges—each with its own admission requirements based on the chosen major. UM Ann Arbor also supports an Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program and features numerous galleries, museums, and libraries, including Gallerydaas, the Museum of Art, the Detroit Observatory, the Museum of Dentistry, and a Planetarium.
